Blog | Why I Feel Kanye West’s Next Move HAS to be a Strong One #W2TM

kanye west has been having himself a very busy 2015 thus far, what with performing at the Grammys, executive producing Rihanna’s forthcoming LP, as well as working on his own LP, he added onto that already impressive list of accomplishments today. West premiered the entirety of his 1st collection with Adidas at New York Fashion Week, debuted the first track from his currently nameless album with Chicago artist Vic Mensa & Sia called, “Wolves,” Ye also took to the stage for a live performance at the 1st Annual Roc City Classic event in New York City, which co-stared NBA all-star Kevin Durant.

amongst this large amount of content revealing i’m sure Kanye felt as though there would be nothing ANYONE could do to take anything away from this day being 100% Yeezy…except 1 person: Drake.

excluding a slight return from a short hiatus from social media Drake has been relatively quiet regarding the details on his new music much to the chagrin of his fans until tonight. Drake took to his twitter to post a link to his new mixtape available here on iTunes, “If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late.” on the surface this doesn’t seem like that big of a deal, artists release dates overlap quite often, but for Kanye it’s a little different. Kanye previously said he “let” Drake have last summer but reassured that going forward he would reclaim the throne all powered by his vision. this somewhat surprise release from Drake puts pressure on Ye for a number of reasons.

Given his antics all throughout 2013-2014 on the Yeezus Tour, his recent unveiling of his first shoe collaboration with Adidas, the Yeezy Boost 750 being met with a bittersweet response by the public, and the expected but still alienating swerve in musical direct as of late Kanye has become damaged goods in some peoples eyes and the last thing he needs on top of getting a lukewarm response to his 2nd Official Single is to have it be forgotten and become lost in the shuffle due to most hip-hop fans almost involuntary urge to quote Drake lyrics on Twitter and Instagram. a devastating blow like this could threaten West’s momentum he was working so hard on building going into 2015, leaving Drake with the ball in his court along with the satisfaction that he too can break the internet just as quickly as Kanye West can if not quicker. now i understand that 1 SINGLE PERSON can’t possibly own a day and everyone else should know to hold off, you could say Kanye served the culture for the morning & most of the day, and Drake handled the graveyard shift. but i still feel in term’s of making an impact, regardless of Drake “being on” GOOD Music along with any artist that creates good music according to Kanye, Drake may be a few steps ahead of Ye on the surface having used left moves.

what are your thoughts on Kanye’s recent music as well as his clothing line with Adidas? do you think Drake can keep his hot streak going thru 2015? let us know, #W2TM

Music ShowCase :: GREEN by @DarynAlexus

daryn alexus a young talent currently residing in Chicago pushing out a refreshing sound that many wouldn’t expect to come from this city. in my opinion daryn already has the abundant ability to use her voice as a powerful weapon while simultaneously keeping that power in check as to highlight its subtle sweetness. that ability paired with her talent for original songwriting will make her a very formidable contender in the industry, again IMO. this project is very sweet, very genuine, and should be replayed from top to bottom MORE than a few times.

#ChicagoTalent: @ChrisCrackNDC – #FREESWAG TOO: Fxck the Judge by @sleeptillnoon #w2tm

chicago’s Chris Crack and his collaborators in New Deal Crew haven’t generated as much attention as some of the city’s up-and-comers and i don’t know why. this entire project is a breath of fresh air amongst the current ‘vibe’ of music expected to be coming from chicago artists. both the lyrical content & the production are crass and arrogant without being overbearing, as well as a bit personal, very reminiscent of Hodgy Beats from Odd Future. the EP seems to naturally fall in line with the status quo of hip-hop song structure, but not at all all at the same time with a calm lack of interest while still demanding some form of attention. i’ll definitely be patiently waiting on his forthcoming release titled ‘Trill Withers’ to see if this collective can further convince me that their something chicago should fully get behind.

#ChicagoTalent Blu Cap (from L.O.C.A.L.$) presents ‘Thought Exposure Vol. 1 (REVIEW) by @SLEEPTILLNOON #w2tm

artworks-000064046564-r8uuja-t500x500

this will be my second post about Blu Cap from L.O.C.A.L.$ on here brehs(my first post about Blu can be found here). except this time i’m here to give you my take on Blu’s first release of a body of work, ‘Though Exposure Vol. 1.

the project starts off with a mysterious yet familiar sample before it heads into the second track, ‘Stressed,’ where Blu trades bars with The Hooligan over an atmospheric vocally dominant instrumental.

the majority of the project features Blu’s vocals over several boom-bap instrumentals while every so often taking a break to abandon standard rhyme structure & switch to spoken word with little emphasis on the sound, but what he’s trying to convey to whoever’s listening. after this break Blu jumps into his single track, ‘Me’. the remainder of the project seems more for Blu himself to vent & simply voice things aloud, and whoever feels like they’d like to listen is welcome to. Blu touches on some personal situations involving a girl he feels may be the one he could see himself growing old with, ‘She,’ as well as a track paying homage to his hometown titled ‘Hello Chicago.’

my thoughts on the project as a whole is that Blu Cap has a voice and a audible demeanor that is pleasant to listen to over an instrumental. Blu also has a very apparent ability to shape & tell a story. i would only critique his delivery of those stories, because at some points without noticeable intention a track can be riding smooth then all of a sudden a bar will be slightly out of time, or lacking confidence making Blu seem more ‘green’ than he really is. that being said everyone has to start somewhere(started…)and i feel as though Blu Cap has a leg up on his competition on a lot of elements, and where he comes up a little short i believe he can develop and become a serious contender people won’t easily ignore. take a listen to Thought Exposure Vol. 1 below via Blu Caps soundcloud.

What’s the next move for you that you working on right now?

Right now I’m currently working on a Ep and an Album. The Ep will be some free music just to drop to get people ready for the Album!

For those that don’t know you us to rap under the name the infamous swagg what inspired the change?

I went through an identity crisis once my brother passed away, I wasn’t sure if I wanted to keep my name or change my name to infamous dysh for my brother or even use an old nickname of my fathers. after a while I realized I was gonna be more honest and genuine with my music and give people me..the real me. so I decided to do the same with my name.

How do you get in the zone before you record because a lot of your music is deep?

I don’t really have a process or anything to get in the zone. writing, recording, shooting videos. everything feels so natural to me now at this point I’m always in my zone when it comes to music. it really has become 2nd nature to me.

What project will the October 22 track be featured on?

My Ep dropping soon!

Who is an artist that you would say inspired your music?

2pac. his message and ideas are something that still live on and exist. i want my legacy to continue similar after im gone.

Any artists you looking forward to working with on your next project?

honestly im so content with my circle. I don’t feel the need  to include too many features on my next project. No cockiness but im very confident with everybody apart of Black Military

What’s the movement behind ya music these days I know you Dysh Life but I know you rep glock city & Black military?

DyshLife will always be the legacy i carry for my brother. Glock City is at heart and will always be my family before anything but now i rep B3M (Black Military Music Mafia) Proud to say I feel as if im running with the strongest musical team in the Lehigh valley.

When you did the control freestyle did you think you was going to get over 25000 views so quickly?

HELL NAH! I seriously wrote it knowing it was gonna cause some buzz and make some people feel some kinda way but I didn’t even have my mind-set on trying to reach that many views that fast. blessed it happened though because im glad the message reached more people than I intended.

Why should we support your music?

I don’t feel like I should say im a real nigga but my music is real and anyone who listens and can connect will vouch for me after they hear a song. I don’t do it for material gain I truly make music to touch the souls of people in struggle.

How do you keep your self hungry musically to focus on the bigger picture?

Put God first and keep the love of music my main priority before I put a dollar sign in front of it and begin to make songs with less meaning and purpose only to make money.
