I don’t know what’s going on anymore in hip hop it left the streets and became the new hipster movement. You frown upon it like those skater kids back in the days with them super oversized Jnco Jeans when you hear some of this music. The most ignorant artists that have absolutely nothing realistic to say are successful such as Gucci, Waka, Lil B, Gunplay who just got a major record deal need I continue?? It was hard accepting the fact that gone are the days of songs with lyrics, but they made it easier for us to listen too because most of these terrible songs have great production smh. Waka is an artist that says absolutely nothing an he will admit it but he gets some of the best beats in the game now which makes him a star even though his lyrical flow is poop. The new thing now is everybody is making these simple ass choruses saying the same exact thing over and over like there 2Chainz & Mike Jones example That MMG song actin up. Just because one rapper pulls it off doesn’t mean everyone else need 2 ride that 🏄 (wave) but PLEASE stop this non sense already like this guy below smh
This is a new section were I will be highlighting a rapper who’s career was tragically cut short to keep there memories alive. The first rapper is thizz nation and bay area artist Johnny Cash he was a member of the group Money Gang and big on the underground scene at that time. He was Gunned down in 3/07 Rip gone 2 soon.
Most people who do music do it for the fame there is only a selected few who do it for the art an you can tell when you listen to the music. Regardless of your reason to do music everyone wants to be successful. As an artist you get what you put into yourself. You can’t be cheap with your music you must invest in promo to get your name out and studio time for starters. You must develop a brand that separates you from other artists & make good songs. These days you have many options to get your music out mainly the Internet, there is many blogs & sites that will post your music you can also pass your CDs out. In the past music videos were a luxury but now it’s something available for many artists because so many people are filming videos. So if your gonna do it right & “Go Hard Or Go Home”
This is a new joint from the A town youngn known as Swagg. If you been following his music you know this song is just light work for him as he continues to deliver music that you can feel. Earlier this week I woke up very disappointed when I seen the XXL 2012 Freshman cover. This is a disappointment to all the hard-working new artists out. I am confused as to how they choose people for this cover it’s obvious it doesn’t go by how relevant you are because I have no idea who some of these people are and I’m a big hip hop fan. I thought a freshman was a new artist if that was the case French Montana & Roscoe Dash should not be on the cover. The idea of French being a Freshman is ridiculous the guy been in the game almost 10 years. It’s a shame he is the only East Coast rapper on the cover & he isn’t very lyrical at all. If u look back at past Freshman covers there has been more missed than hit rappers. I am aware artists work hard to build up their buzz, but I can’t even take some of these artists seriously. This section should be called XXL’s Rappers we want you to like this year. If you really think about it Future is the best new artist on this cover he did Racks on Racks, Tony Montana and a few other songs that got him some big Features from artists such as Drake & Rick Ross. Machine Gun Kelly must have been handed this cover with his Bad Boy Record deal. I don’t know who Macklemore is and I don’t care because I searched Hopsin, Iggy Azalea & Danny Brown and I was disappointed. I have no issue with Kid Ink I feel he earned it. In the 5 years XXL has had Freshman Class this is by far the worst one. I guess they don’t notice up & coming artists like Los, Jon Connor, XV, Schoolboy Q , Push!, Stalley even Chevy Woods to name a few. I see why ASAP Rocky passed on being in this class its a joke like interscope magazine oops!! I mean XXL.
Video from the hit off the Dream Chasers mixtape
1) When did you produce your first beat that gave you some exposure?
J Cardim: My 1st placement was in 2004, On Jean Grae’s album titled “This week” I did “intro” and “P.S.”
2) I know you have worked with everyone in the game from Joe Buddens, Jadakiss to Ludacris & Fat Joe to
name a few. Who would you say is your favorite artist you have work with?
J.Cardim: Joe buddens was easy to work with because I’m more hands on with my production. French Montana too. I’m able to experiment different things with my beats.
3) I personally think your sound is amazing why do you think it hasn’t got the exposure to consider you one of
the top producers in the game?
J.Cardim: Times change. It’s not a producers game as it was back in 02-03 even up to 06. I think now its coming back to the artist. They want artists that create their own lanes. Like “drake” or “Asap rocky”. If this was 03 then it would have been a different story. But I like where the game is headed. The artists teams up with a producer and create a sound. That’s what me and my artist Ariez Onasis is doing.
4) Most people may not know that you have released two albums “Your Favorite Rappers
Favorite Producer” & “The In Crowd” produced by you. when is your next project coming out?
J.Cardim: ummmmmm, lol. My next project as of right now is my artist Ariez Onasis “Heart break kid” it’s all produced by me. And its a new sound that no one will have expected me to do. Our single is out now. Called “Victim”
5) What is your favorite beat of all time you produced?
J.Cardim: As of right now. “Victim” check it out. Its dope!!
6) Tell me about the Dice Music Group/Respect & Power Records imprint?
J.Cardim: Dice Music Group (DMG) is a company which my manager and myself run. Tuge and Ariez is our two artist on there. And myself as a producer.
7) Who is the best Producer of all time in your opinion?
J.Cardim: Dj Premier, Dre, Timbo and Just Blaze.
8.) If artists would like to get beats from you how would they reach you?
J.Cardim: My manager Zack Einhorn email@example.com
9.) Do you do a lot of sampling or is everything original?
J.Cardim: Mostly all original at this point
10) Whats your plans for the New Year music wise?
J.Cardim: To successfully drop the Ariez Onasis album “HBK”
11) Who would you like to work with that you havent yet?
J.Cardim: Drake, Jay z, Wiz Khalifa.
1.) How long have you been producing?
V Don: I’ve been producing for about 5 yrs now.
2.) What makes your sound stand out compared to others?
V Don: My sound differs from others because it’s a mixture between a late 90s feel and something new .
3.) I know your track record speaks for itself but who would you like to work with that you haven’t had the opportunity too yet?
V Don: I would like to work with Kendrick Lamar , im really feeling his music . I spoke with Asap Rocky about doing some work with him. I would also say definitely Rick Ross , Meek Mill & Common.
4.) What inspired the “Large On The Streets Big L beat ?
V Don: I made that beat a while ago , like the top of 09 . I came across a lil sample an added a dope drum break to it . At the time I was making beats with signature hooks on them
then I chopped up Big L vocals on the beat it went perfect.
5.) What was your breakout song?
V Don: It definitely had to be Vado Large On The Streets.
6.) Who is your top 5 producers of all time?
V.Don: I would have to go with Kanye , Alchemist , Hi tek , DJ Premier & Just Blaze.
7.) How can people reach you for beats?
V Don: You can hit me up on twitter.com/vdonsoundz or Soundzserious@gmail.com
8.) What do you use to make your beats?
V Don: FL Studio , Pro Tools , MPK
9.) What do you think the best album of 2011 is thus far?
V Don: I would say Jay-Z & Kanye West Watch the throne or Kendrick Lamar Section 80
10.) Is there any projects you got on the way the people should know about?
V Don: Yes definitely I just placed a track on 50 Cent upcoming album , I just did a track with Lloyd Banks on “The Cold Corner 2” . I have my own artists SteadyFam im working with from Richmond Va . im also working on a ep with a new artist Bodega Bamz called Sidewalk Exec . In the future expect to hear me working with Trae Tha Truth , Willie Da Kid , Smoke Dza & Asap Rocky
11.) What are your thoughts on rap music as a whole right now?
V Don: I think rap music is in a changing stage right now , there’s a lot of dope new artist and a lot of garbage out too overall.
12.) Why should artists come to you for beats?
V Don: Artist’s should come to me for HEAT because my music definitely brings the best in you..
