Former Laker Javaris Crittenton Charged With Murder

Former NBA player Javaris Crittenton is currently wanted for murder. He has been charged in the fatal shooting of 22-year-old Jullian Jones, a mother of four who was gunned down Aug. 19 on an Atlanta street. Crittenton allegedly killed Jones with shots fired from a dark-colored SUV, police said. Investigators don’t believe Jones was the intended target. Crittenton’s motive appeared to be retaliation for an April robbery in which Crittenton was a victim. He played 113 NBA games (including 22 with the Lakers in 2007-08), and was also a key piece in the trade to land Pau Gasol. Crittenton’s pro career was derailed by a gun-related incident involving Gilbert Arenas in the Wizards’ locker room during the 2009-10 season, leading to a lengthy suspension.

Chaos at Candlestick: The Raiders vs 49ers Brawl

The San Francisco 49ers said Monday that they want to put the teams annual preseason matchup against the Oakland Raiders on hold. This coming out after an exhibition game at Candlestick Park in which two fans were shot, one was beaten unconscious, 12 were arrested and dozens ejected. One of the shooting victims was wearing a T-shirt imprinted with a derogatory phrase about the 49ers, according to police. The violence occurred during and after the 49ers’ 17-3 victory Saturday night in their home stadium. Videos taken by fans and posted online shows fights and aggressive behavior in the stands during the game. In the two parking lot shootings, a 24-year-old man was shot multiple times in the stomach and managed to drive himself to a stadium security office for help. He is hospitalized and in critical condition. In another attack, a man in his 20s was shot numerous times but sustained lesser injuries, according to police. About an hour before the shootings, a 26-year-old man was assaulted and beaten  unconscious in a bathroom. He was hospitalized in serious condition, police said. The police currently have no suspects in custody and although the shootings were being investigated as separate incidents, they could possibly be related. The Raiders and 49ers began a long-running series in 1967. They played an exhibition game each year through 1993. The series resumed in 1999 and has taken place every year since except 2000. It’s a matchup that has been heated amongst fans and considering the teams close proximity to each other has bragging rights on the line. 49ers CEO Jed York said he will recommend to the NFL that the annual preseason battle between the 49ers and Raiders be put off next year. This could be the death of a long rivalry due to the immaturity of the fans.
